A club entrenched in culture and tradition is Sangpang FC from Mokokchung. It was formed in the year 2011 with the union of two dynamic entrepreneurs from Mokokchung. The word “Sangpang” is an Ao word which literally means a young man or young boy who is at the prime of his age. In the Ao society Sangpang refers to a young unmarried man who has immense responsibilities in the society who can be there for the society unconditionally since they are not bogged down by the responsibilities of a married life. Based on that mileu “Sangpang” was chosen as the official name of the club and staying true to its name SFC is here to promote and encourage young footballer. The club also aims to provide the talented and aspiring footballers a source of employment, which aligns with the NPL motive.
Sangpang FC on wearing the facet of being fully rooted in tradition and culture displays a logo which is a blend of Naga cultural ethos and traditional instruments fused with that of a modern football club. The main frame of the logo indicating a shield depicts the warriors in the Nagas and the colors black and white indicates the club’s colors. The spears represents our traditional weapon along with the hornbill feather and the head gear of the Naga warrior which has a deep meaning in the Naga society. Finally, the football in the logo portrays its ultimate quest of being a football club. By and large the logo describes the club’s penchant for tradition and culture combined with deep love for football and the urge to go on and build an identity in the International football arena as well.
With an aim to create a lasting legacy the club is investing a lot in new facilities, training new talents and creating free sporting opportunities for NPL. The club truly abides by the “Never say die” attitude and being ingrained with towering visions the Club considers it all as a huge challenge both for NPL and the club and strongly believes that together it can walk towards making the dreams turn into reality. SFC is confident that NPL will create opportunities for unrecognized talents and enable talented players to deliver to the best of their potentials. This is a club with an affinity for society and tradition and is of the opinion that bthis league will play a positive role in eradicating tribalism.
